Tobey Crockett PhD  ~  Illuminating the Mystery

mind

When I first began serious intellectual study, my research examined the fundamental nature of the artwork and how it functions as a memory activator in the mind of the viewer.  This led me to theorize about the nature of interactivity and to develop a critical theory for digital media which calls for a greater recognition of the subjectivities embedded within our latest technologies.  My doctoral research at the University of California at Irvine in Visual Studies, my masters degree in Critical Theory from the Art Center College of Design and my bachelors degree in Art History from Barnard all flow from my early interests in transpersonal experience and the coding of culture, and dovetails well with my lifelong interest in indigenous peoples.

A professional writer for over 25 years, I continue to write for pleasure as well as with purpose.  I have published well over 100 reviews, interviews, essays, chapters and more personal writings published in the US and abroad in a wide variety of magazines, journals, books and online venues. Now I am turning my attention to a series of community oriented books about creativity and spirituality, as well as a personal memoir.  Novels are somewhere on the horizon!
